Fire Division 1-Day Symposium 2010

Date/Time/Venue

Date: 15 March 2010 (Monday)
Time: 0900 (Registration); 0930 to 1730
Venue: Theatre 1, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive, Wanchai, Hong Kong

Highlights
The Second Annual Symposium of the Fire Division intends to bring together Mainland China, overseas and local experts to contribute towards building a future Hong Kong that is sustainable and at the same time fire-safe.
With growing environmental consciousness among nations, there is a rush for designs for sustainable built environments to address issues like climate change and carbon audit. This drive for sustainability raises a fire safety concern in the use of energy-efficient materials, exterior shading and extensive atria which are inherent in modern sustainable construction concepts yet may not be code compliant. It is here that fire engineers, equipped with a thorough understanding of performance-based engineering concepts, play a pivotal role in accommodating sustainable designs and ensuring a sustainable fire-safe environment to be achieved through holistic fire engineering approach. The symposium will also look at fire safety strategies for heritage buildings and infrastructure which are intrinsic elements in a sustainable future.
Mrs. Carri LAM, the Secretary for Development, has kindly consented to be our Guest of Honour and will deliver an opening speech; Heads of relevant Government Departments, and Ir Dr. Andrew CHAN, the President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers will be invited as distinguished guests; while our Mainland, overseas and local speakers would also be invited to deliver important messages on the advances in the field.
