Introduction

The Institution of Fire Engineers is an international learned body founded in 1918, it has over 30 overseas branches in some 20 countries, and the Hong Kong Branch is one of them. The Hong Kong Branch was established in 1959 and has over 1,100 members as at March 2017. Its membership comprises fire-fighters, academics, consultants, building service engineers, health and safety professionals, fire service installation and equipment suppliers and contractors, insurance experts, etc.

In its attempt to achieve the objectives of the Institution, the Hong Kong Branch organizes and provides regular exposures and training opportunities for its members, including seminars, symposiums, conferences, exhibitions, visits and technical activities.

In association with the University of Central Lancashire and the City University of Hong Kong, the Branch has arranged for a Bachelor in Fire Engineering (Hons) degree course and a Higher National Certificate course to be taught locally. Graduates of the degree course are further assisted, through the UK Engineering Council Division of the Institution, to apply for registration with the UK Engineer Council as Chartered Engineers. The Branch also assists and facilitates aspiring members to become members of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
